Santa Fe Chicken Pizza Review – California Pizza Kitchen

What they say
First introduced in 1987 and last available nearly 20 years ago, the Santa Fe Chicken Pizza features CPK’s hand-tossed dough topped with chicken breast marinated in lime and herbs, red onions and Monterey Jack, plus fresh cilantro, sour cream, smashed avocado and homemade roasted tomato salsa.

What we say
The lads had heard that CPK had reintroduced an old favorite from long before our time so now we get to sample and review it for real for you. Now we ask ourselves why it was dropped in the first place ? Was it old fashioned or have tastes changed ? Looking at the toppings mix in fact it looks well suited to modern tastes and has an air of healthiness about it. So it was probably ahead of its time before.

Anyway the important part. the taste test…!

The Base was classic CPK with nicely browned edges, crisp and light and fresh tasting. The roasted tomato salsa was rustic with subtle garlic, lime undertone. The Monterey Jack / Mozzarella mix was deeply delicious. Chicken breast marinated in lime was generously spread in bitesize strips and the chicken was tender and the lime and herbs gave it a tangy twist. It was topped off the delicate rings of red onion and topped off with fresh, citrusy cilantro. Served with a dash of sour cream and smashed avocado.

All in all a very different pizza and very refreshing with a multitude of complementing toppings to create a zingy offering. A winner and we welcome it back

A thumbs up from The Pizza Lads
