Mushroom Swiss Burger Pizza from Papa John’s Review
What they say
Papa John’s new Mushroom Swiss Burger pizza, is made with real beef, cremini mushrooms, fresh sliced onions, then covered with cheese made from mozzarella and Swiss, all layered on the chain’s original hand-tossed crust and creamy garlic sauce. Our ingredients matter. Whether it’s our signature sauce, toppings, our original fresh dough, or even the box itself, we invest in our ingredients to ensure that we always give you the finest quality pizza.
What we say
Now the lads are really looking forward to this pizza as the toppings seem like a great combo, but is it?
Pizza ordered and arrived good and hot, looks wise it’s a bit unappealing with a gloomy dark look but hey, not much they can do about that.
Smell wise it definitely passes the test with a lovely cheesy mushroom aroma. The Original hand tossed crust is not that light and fluffy but more chewy than some, but not too doughy and with a seasoned decent crust. Garlic sauce is pungent with a great depth of garlic flavor and fairly generous. The Swiss and Mozzarella cheese mix has the lovely nutty and buttery Swiss taste and was thick and generous with a nicely toasted top. The Onions were bittersweet and cut through the garlic taste at least. Cremini mushrooms sound exotic but are really just slightly more mature button mushrooms but tasty and generously spread. The “real beef” as opposed to? synthetic beef? was decent, nice beef taste but was a bit sparse so got lost in the overall combo which brings us to our conclusion that the garlic sauce can really work on some pizzas but we felt not on this one, it was quite garlicky and somehow overpowered the overall flavor.
Verdict – a middling pizza combo, just above average
A thumbs up from The Pizza Lads
