What we say
The lads had heard that Donatos is a hidden gem of a pizza hangout so we thought we would try the classic trio pizza. Sausage ,mushrooms and pepperoni is not what we would call a classic but hey what do we know (please don’t answer that) . So we went for the classic hand tossed base and we liked the look of what we saw. Base to toppings ratio is very favorable and we can confirm the edge to edge topping promise is true. Good and hot and smelt lovely.
The dough base was quite thin but nice and soft with a crispy crust. A very pleasant red sauce was evident . Nice deep colored smoked Provolone cheese from Wisconsin had a wonderful smokey taste and worked a treat .The family recipe sausage was in bite sized chunks and was excellent with a succulent meaty taste with subtle seasoning. Mushrooms were soft and went so well with the sausage ,and it was complemented by the pepperoni which again was plentiful with a sharp peppery twang.
So all in all a winner of a combo.. Pepperoni might not have been our choice but we agreed it was an above average pizza
