What we say
The lads love a cheeseburger (occasionally) but we are not called the pizza lads for nothing so a cheeseburger type topping mix on a pizza is what we call heaven for us. It’s been around for a while but maybe that shows this combo has passed the test of time.
We went for the standard original base and the pizza looked a bit of a mess on first glance, very busy topping wise. But the smell was good with the hickory-smoked bacon really coming through. The base was the usual decent standard, a good thickness and not too hard or soft. The edges were a bit overly crispy on this occasion but still light inside. The burger sauce was fairly mild, but creamy, with a sort of mustardy / tomato taste, it was nice and reminded us of maccy-d sauce. Usual mozza cheese was all good and gooey. The ground beef was to be honest a bit flavorless but in nice succulent pieces. The hickory-smoked bacon was sweet with a deep rich flavor and was a standout. Fresh cut Roma tomatoes are ideal for this combo with juicy fleshy sweet tones. The pickles were a welcome addition and the salty, sourness contrasts well with the porkiness of the bacon. We were surprised that no onion was in the topping mix but perhaps it won’t go too well with the bacon?
So the final verdict was that we thought it was okay overall but we felt it wasn’t one we would have too often, so sadly it has to a marginal thumbs down from The Pizza Lads.
